In liquid crystal displays (LCDs), the terms AA (Active Area) and VA (View Area) are very common. When designing products, the AA area of ​​a display is often inquired about.  AA area (Active Area)——the area where the image can be displayed

The AA area is the active area of ​​the display that allows normal display of images. It is composed of controllable pixels and can display images, text, videos, and other content. Areas outside the AA area typically include the black border, driver IC area, and bonding connection area, and these areas do not have display functionality. For example, a display's AA area measures 36.72 × 48.96 mm, indicating that the display can display images within this size range; areas outside this range cannot display content.

VA area (View Area)——the area that can be seen

The display is encapsulated from two pieces of glass (a TFT substrate and a color film substrate). The edges require a sealant to seal the liquid crystal material to prevent leakage and moisture ingress. To avoid these complex circuits, a black masking layer is added to the edges to conceal them. This area of ​​the sealant is shielded by the black masking layer, concealing the black border and giving it a more streamlined appearance. This black border usually includes the VA area.

When designing the structure or the dimensions of the capacitive touch screen, the display area of ​​the TFT display must be fully considered. Special attention should be paid to the size of these two dimensions to ensure that they are not blocked by the outer shell. When the display screen and the cover glass are bonded together, a certain tolerance area needs to be reserved to ensure the integrity of the displayed content.
