The difference between IPS screen and VA, TN, OLED

IPS, VA, and TN are all types of TFT (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display). There are many different types of displays, generally categorized from a technical perspective as TFT and OLED. IPS, VA, and TN are specifications within TFT displays. Their primary difference lies in the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, resulting in variations in viewing angle, contrast, response speed, and color performance. OLED is further subdivided into QD-OLED, QLCD, AMOLED, and PMOLED. To put it simply, TFT displays (IPS, VA, and TN) require a backlight, while each pixel in OLED can independently emit its own light.

TFT LCD display:

IPS screen (In-Plane Switching):TFT DisplayThe liquid crystal molecules rotate within the plane, providing a wider viewing angle and more accurate colors, with no difference in viewing angles of approximately 90 degrees in four directions.

VA screen (vertical alignment type): liquid crystal molecules are arranged vertically when no power is applied, resulting in deeper blacks and higher contrast. It is suitable for occasions with high contrast requirements, and there is no difference in viewing angles of about 60 degrees in all four directions.

TN screen (twisted nematic): The liquid crystal molecules are simply arranged, the response speed is fast, and the cost is low, but the viewing angle is narrow, only about 40 degrees in four directions or two of the angles are smaller.

All three belong to the TFT technology route and require a backlight source to emit light.

OLED display:

From a technical perspective, OLED is mainly divided into two types: AMOLED and PMOLED. From the perspective of materials and structure, it can also be divided into flexible OLED, hard screen OLED, transparent OLED, QLED, QD-LED, Micro OLED and other forms.

PMOLED: Passive-Matrix OLED passive matrix drive, each pixel does not have an independent control transistor, simple structure, low cost, low resolution and limited size.

AMOLED: Active-Matrix OLED active matrix drive, each pixel is independently controlled, high resolution and fast response is the mainstream high-end OLED technology.

OLED (IJP OLED): Shenzhen Huaxing Optoelectronics' new OLED technology features higher material utilization (up to 90%+), lower costs, better display effects, and is suitable for medium/large-size production.
